The Open Food Web Foundation

Australia

Project Summary

Creating a food voucher program to make food more accessible for diverse and disadvantaged communities across Australia.

Open Food Network, established in 2012, builds better food systems globally through local initiatives. As an open-source, non-profit organization, we create adaptable solutions for values-based supply networks.

Our core activities include:

Software and Tech Solutions: We develop accessible software for food supply networks. Our flagship platform supports efficient online collaboration and sales for values-based networks.

Regional Food Activation: We connect and empower local food leaders and communities, evolving our tools based on successful food distribution models.

Research and Food System Projects: We provide consulting services to reshape food system possibilities through co-design and information synthesis.

Our project, Increasing Financial Access to Food Through Community Food Enterprises, aims to provide food vouchers for low-income households in Victoria, Australia, via locally owned food businesses. In the first year, we will establish a food subsidy fund and a voucher system. The second year will focus on distributing AUD$65,000 in subsidies and measuring outcomes to improve food access and strengthen community food systems.
