Nigeria

Project Summary

Increasing access to quality produce in low-income communities by enhancing producer’s financial capacity, tackling misconceptions about fruits and vegetables, and providing technical support to vendors.

TechnoServe is an international non-profit organization that promotes business solutions to poverty in the developing world, with operations in 29 countries worldwide. With support from the Citi Foundation grant, TechnoServe Nigeria is implementing the Horticurity project which aims to tackle food insecurity in flood-prone Delta and food-insecure Kano states by enhancing access to fruits and vegetables (F&Vs) and building resilience against climate and economic shocks. It focuses on creating sustainable food systems through targeted interventions and strategic partnerships, empowering low-income communities to access nutritious produce and develop recovery capacities. Key initiatives include a digital platform, the Horticurity Fund, and innovative solutions like early warning systems, home gardening, zero energy cooling chambers, and e-commerce platforms for smallholder farmers. The project also emphasizes gender equality, with 74% female beneficiaries, and supports SMEs in F&V value chains.
