Project Summary

Helping ethnic minority rice farmers in Vietnam overcome climate-related challenges by using efficient technologies and creating sustainable businesses to boost their rice production.

iDE, a U.S.-based NGO, operates globally to empower impoverished rural households in Africa, Asia, and Central America. Rejecting simplistic handouts, we champion entrepreneurship to foster sustainable livelihoods and resilience. We believe in the innate capacity of all individuals to enhance their circumstances. Guided by principles of equity, sustainability, and innovation, we engage communities as partners in their own development.

Our latest endeavor, the "Inclusive Market Ecosystem for Resilient Farmers Initiative" (GLIMER), targets Gia Lai province in Vietnam's Central Highlands. Here, climate extremes threaten agriculture, particularly rice production vital for ethnic minority households. GLIMER aims to bolster farmers' resilience and income over two years by providing resource-smart technologies, nurturing inclusive markets, and establishing a weather forecasting system. Through training and support, we envision 4,000 farmers adopting technologies like Fertilizer Deep Placement, fostering a network of sustainable businesses. This initiative strives to break the cycle of poverty and food insecurity, empowering local communities to thrive amidst adversity.
