The project will promote the uptake of promising low-cost housing innovations and increase the earnings of the youth within the housing value chain in Mayuge and Kumi districts in Uganda
Building on the success of Habitat for Humanity Uganda’s two regional youth hubs, where we have been able to train over 6000 youth who have since moved on to create over 1000 jobs in the housing value chain and build 13 low cost houses, the project aims to reduce homelessness and improve living conditions of low-income families in Mayuge and Kumi districts by: making low-cost housing technology solutions locally available and accessible’ to people at risk of homelessness, thereby increasing the demand and acceptability of alternative and innovative solutions to homelessness; and skilling youth in innovative housing technologies to address the dual challenges of youth unemployment and housing affordability.
