Strengthening local farming and promoting healthier diets in rural communities in Peru by connecting family farmers with local markets and school meal programs.
Welthungerhilfe (WHH), one of Germany's largest NGOs, stands as a frontrunner in humanitarian assistance and international cooperation since its inception in 1962. Operating independently of political and religious affiliations, WHH extends its reach to 37 countries worldwide, envisioning a world where every individual can lead a life of dignity and justice, devoid of hunger and poverty. With a robust revenue of US $366 million in 2022 alone, WHH positively impacted 18.8 million people in some of the world’s most challenging regions.
Since 1998, WHH has been actively engaged in Peru, collaborating with civil society groups in Peru and Bolivia to drive transformative change. Prioritizing inclusive collaboration between local and global civil society entities, WHH focuses on addressing the underlying causes of hunger and poverty through structural change processes and innovative solutions, thereby promoting sustainable food systems and ensuring the right to food.

The initiative, launched in Huaraz, Ancash, has made significant strides in enhancing food and nutrition security among the vulnerable population. Over 35 training sessions have been conducted on agroecological production, farming techniques, commercialization, and gender inclusivity. An agroecological fair showcased local sustainable products, while the establishment of four school kitchen gardens supplements nutritious produce for school feeding programs. Furthermore, multi-actor dialogues involving farmers, regional authorities, and small-scale enterprises ensure ongoing political and financial support, fostering opportunities for scalability
