Chatham House

United Kingdom

Project Summary

Conducting research, developing resources and providing capacity building to local nongovernment organizations on how to mitigate the impacts of disasters on local food systems in Bangladesh and Senegal.

Chatham House, the Royal Institute of International Affairs, is an independent policy institute based in London, UK. Its mission is to help governments and societies build a sustainably secure, prosperous, and just world.

In collaboration with Practical Action, an INGO focused on building resilient lives and livelihoods in the face of climate change, they are working globally, and in Bangladesh and Senegal, on a project to:

i. Assess challenges and opportunities for integrating compound, cascading risks to food systems into existing early warning systems (EWS).

ii. Understand how communities experience these risks and evaluate EWS effectiveness in providing actionable information, with case studies in Bangladesh and Senegal.

iii. Develop recommendations for at-risk communities and decision-makers on strengthening EWS integration of cascading risks and improving early warning and anticipatory actions to protect local food systems and food security.
