Leveraging its cost-effective crop cultivation system to expand rooftop gardens in Lebanon that help families become self-sufficient, fulfill their nutritional needs, and share or sell surplus produce to neighbors.
Anera collaborates with partners in Palestine (West Bank and Gaza), Lebanon, and Jordan to mobilize resources for immediate relief and sustainable development in health, education, and the economy. Our local staff navigate political challenges to deliver essential aid.
The Citi Foundation supports Anera's Sustainable Rooftop Gardens Project in Lebanon, enhancing food security and economic empowerment for 130 Lebanese and Palestinian households. This project engages women heads of households in rooftop gardening using a modified hydroponic model. This cost-effective technique, accepted by the community, supports sustainable growth of crops like cucumbers, tomatoes, lettuce, and peppers. The project fosters self-sufficiency, meeting nutritional needs and allowing surplus to be sold or shared.
The project surpassed its initial target of 126 households, aiming to reach 185 by leveraging cost savings and collaborating with similar projects. This initiative enhances social cohesion, improves living environments, and addresses food insecurity while countering climate change.
